How the course works
Each lesson introduces a small number of keys, gives you drills for them, then real words and — once enough letters exist — full sentences. No lesson ever asks for a key it has not taught you, which is why the early lessons look sparse: with only F and J there is nothing else honest to type.
Three stars means you hit both the speed and the accuracy target. One star means you finished. Accuracy is worth more than speed at this stage, so it is the easier of the two stars to earn on purpose.
How XP and ranks work
Every finished attempt earns XP, whether it passed or not — 20 for completing a lesson, 30 for each star you have earned on it, and 50 more the first time you pass it. Mission 0 is worth 50. Ranks arrive every 250 XP, from Beginner up to Master Typist. Because XP counts attempts and stars rather than only passes, a lesson you retried four times before it clicked is worth more than one you happened to pass first time.
Do I have to pass a lesson to move on?
Yes. Each lesson unlocks when you pass the one before it, which means hitting both its speed and its accuracy target. You can retry a lesson as many times as you like, and every attempt still earns stars and XP, so a failed attempt is never wasted. Locked lessons are still readable — you can open any of them and study the keys and the explanation; it is the drill itself that waits until you have earned it.
What is Mission 0?
A one-minute warm-up before Lesson 1 that teaches where your hands go. It has no timer and no score — you find the F and J bumps by feel, press the eight home-row keys once each, and Lesson 1 unlocks. It is the only step available when you first arrive, and it is worth doing properly: everything after it assumes your fingers start from the home row.
How long does it take?
Ten focused minutes a day will take most people through the course in a few weeks. Short and frequent beats long and rare: typing is a motor skill, and motor skills consolidate between sessions rather than during them.
Where to go next
- Weak-Key Training — once you have typed a little, this builds drills from the keys you personally miss.
- English Typing Practice — untimed practice on full passages.
- English Typing Test — measure your speed and accuracy.
- Typing Games — four short games when drilling gets dull.
